General Paediatrics

What does a general paediatrician do?

The way we like to see it is that we look after the tricky things in a child’s life which are more complex than your GP feels comfortable to manage.

As specialists in children’s health general paediatricians are trained to know more about children’s emotional and physical issues and can advise GPs and families about the next step.

Here at Cairns Children’s Clinic, we work with your GP and other professionals to assist children with a wide range of conditions.

We have outlined a few here to give you some examples:

  • Asthma
  • Headaches
  • Epilepsy/Seizures
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Joint issues and hypermobility
  • Abdominal pain
  • Growth issues

And developmental Paediatric problems such as:

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Tourette and tic disorders
  • Learning issues
  • Difficult behaviours
  • Trauma
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • School refusal
  • Developmental delays

Sometimes we need to seek further expertise. As Dr Tigg likes to say:

We know something about a lot of things that children need help with but the specialist paediatricians know a lot more about a few things
